(...because I had run out of maple syrup due to procrastinating the shopping trip.)

It worked! Very tasty breakfast, and it had an extra bit of crunch from the crystals. New Englanders probably have all kinds of tricks and tips for using this type of thing, which I would like to hear!

I am not a New Englander nor have I been to that part of the country.

I have never had maple sugar or even maple syrup though I was given a very small jar as a gift from someone who did a Canadian (Bear?) Hunt.

We like to use honey on our French Toast.

I may have heard of folks using powdered sugar.

Another alternative would be to make a Monte Cristo Sandwich:

I am looking forward to how other folks like their French Toast!

Since I am an Okie from Muskogee who has lived mostly in sunny Texas, I expect everyone to make French Toast the same way I do.

After reading about French Toast that might not be the case with everyone.

I just use plain old store-bought bread, eggs, and milk.

I read that in New Orleans, someone might use French Bread.  I read that in France a Baguette, a long thin bread is used.

Others might use brioche or challah bread.

How do you make French Toast?

I use store-bought organic sprouted grain bread now, after I have toasted it on warm for a couple minutes in the oven. Then I dip the newly-made toast into eggs mixed with a little cream/milk, and loads of nutmeg and cinnamon (clove powder and ginger too if I can find them quickly!). Then I cook each side for seven minutes or so in butter and it is amazing!
