Hey new friends,

Me and my family have started this journey here recently, I'm even going back to school to focus on this venture. We are looking for fellow permits to exchange ideas and plans, willing to help out with projects and share knowledge in return for the same. I am currently going to school for Criminal Justice and Individualized studies with minors in Social working, business, and Botany. My wife is from North Dakota where she was raised on a 600+ acre cattle farm and knows horses very well she is also a Licensed vet tech. We have two young children 7 and 1 are the ages.  Thats just a little about us and some of the knowledge we can offer the friendship, we look forward to your message.

Welcome McGlone family!

My family is in Cincinnati, East Price Hill.
If you like to grow things, cane fruit does very well here.
There is a permaculture nursery called Growing Value and lots of community gardens.
There are also lots of parks, a great zoo/botanical garden, a plant conservatory, a civic garden center, and acres of land too steep to build on, so it is largely fallow.
There are vast amounts of autumn leaves and woodchips available every year.
I personally know three different religious leaders whoa are dedicated to feeding people through gardening and diverting food waste.
My wife just called to let me know that one of them just got their chickens!
Cincinnati has urban agriculture laws, that can be restrictive, but at least things are spelled out.
We get lots of rain, and a the predictions are that we will get more in the coming decades.

If you are looking for any particular thing, just ask, we might be able to save you some time.

Hey Luke, if you haven't already, check out the Cincinnati Permaculture Institute. I'm a member of the board now, and I took the full PDC in 2021-2022 and had a really positive experience. CPI is the hub of people I think you are looking for. You can get on the email list through CPI's website, and that will include actual events where you can actually meet people.

Hello from LOVEland!  I'm just starting to get involved here on permies but have been obsessed with sustainable architecture and horticulture for about 25 years now (growing food for a lot longer than that).  I exited the restaurant business at the beginning of the pandemic and went full bore at my landscaping side hustle.  I've been working with my clients estates to transition their ornamental, high maintenance gardens into food forests ever since.  It's just me so it takes a while to implement.  That said, the winter is crushingly cold in this house and my own food forest is asleep so I'm focusing again on the remodel/sustainable update of the house itself.  We have a TON of clay here in the river valley so now I'm considering covering the walls in it too.  I lived in an Earthship out in New Mexico for a while and I do so miss the feel of cob inside a building!

Anywhoooo, I've lived too long on this side of the country without finding my people and I too have just started reaching out.  It's time to get back in the sustainable game and so I say Hello to you all!  If I can help, in any way, you have but to ask! (If I know anything, I'll spill)
Jen

Hey Jen!
I want to point you towards the not for profit Tikkun Farm.

https://tikkunfarm.com/

They feed people on a grand scale via their Free Market program.
They have a greenhouse that seems underused, and an  amazing compost operation.
You might be able to work with them doing nursery operations.

Too good for the garden perfect for seed starting.
