I cannot lie, outside of spending a lot of time in parks camping, I am a city girl. My fiance has family in Kentucky so we moved here and picked up a few acres in the foothills, or "knobs"area. I absolutely love our home even though it is super small. And I am working on trying to thin down some of the forest area to get a food forest going.

I am going to try to use pigs and goats to work the land, and provide food and milk and perhaps a profit for us as well. This seems like an excellent place to find information.

Welcome to Permies! And welcome to your new adventure!

You likely already know that "observe and interact" is the first "step" of Permaculture--and as you get started I think it would be wise to make sure they stay in balance. I have noticed that people tend to favor one over the other, but the more you can do of both, in balance, the better I think it will be overall for your project.

I classify as part of "observe" looking in on everybody else's ideas around here. There are so many brilliant brains around here, I have gotten dozens of amazing good ideas I have put to use. Enjoy, and so glad to meet you!

Hi Bess, welcome to Permies!

Sounds like you have exciting things ahead. I'm also just taking first steps towards homesteading, slowly but steadily! I felt like I hit jackpot when I found Permies, there's so much information on so many topics.. Did you already see the Kate Downham's Natural Small Batch Cheesemaking Kickstarter? It just launched and it looks really, really good.

I hope you have found your way around Permies.com nicely! Here's a thread you might find useful: How Permies.com Works
