So looks like Planet Wild is back at it again. If you comment on the video before the end of January they will install a hive for you.

Basically elephants are afraid of bees, so they're making a fence out of bee hives connected by wire. If an elephant tries to go though the fence the bees are disturbed and swarm out scaring the elephant.

That is a very interesting concept. I imagine it helps the farmers with crop pollination too. A win win siuation.  In my opinion the video was long winded & took too long to get to the point. It was worth watching though. It did say 100 bees per like on you tube. Not a hive per like. Big difference!!!

The use of wire is an excellent method and 100% effective with an electronic fence energizer.  One that is made by Gallagher for keeping livestock contained. Very inexpensive too.
The use of bee colonies instead is a terrible idea because the beehives will not always sting. The elephant will have to knock over the hive first. The people will quickly learn the value of the beehives and consider them just more property to protect from elephant damage. They will shoot the elephant for just getting close to the beehives. Beehives are not cheap. Electric fences are proven effective and are inexpensive.
