Youtuber SuburbanBiology posted this video about capturing water from the street in front of his house and storing it in his landscape, allowing him to grow plants and trees that would otherwise require irrigation.
It is only one of his excellently engineered projects, and the way he navigates the bureaucracy around public/ private infrastructure(Sidewalks) and resources(rainwater) is itself instructive.

I think this is the only positive thing about having property where it slopes down from the street instead of level or sloping uphill, way to turn a problem into a sollution!

I have done a similar thing at my farm near Bendigo in Victoria, Australia.
There is a dam that holds about 1,000,00o Litres close to a bush track and I keep it topped up with roadside runoff that runs past.
I will get a photo to show the simplicity of it.

I forget if he addressed pollution from run-off.

Unless somebody has dumped engine oil, pollution is not an issue. Filters etc may simply block anyway.
I have not seen any problems at my place.
I have also worked with water and stormwater systems pollution other than physical rubbish is not really an issue.
