I've been cutting my coppice wood to length. This is in various places around my tree field - adjacent to my mini wood shelters. Sometimes I take a folding work bench down with me which makes gripping the wood lengths much easier, but the bench is a bit heavy to carry around and I can't manage it along with my tools.

I was using a metal wheel barrow to rest the logs on and it occured to me that what I need is a wheeled work barrow to hold the wood whilst cutting and help carry the tools as well. I wonder if such a thing exists, or whether it would be easy to make one? Does anyone have an example to share?

We use a saw horse very similar to the photo for light weight logs, which can be made from metal or wood.

What if you took two logs just a bit longer than your wheelbarrow from side to side. Made notches in the logs that allow them to "ride the rails" on the sides of the wheelbarrow and could sandwich logs of different sizes for cutting by adjusting their positions. I can see it working in my mind at least.

The one that Rob showed is the kind I use. It works great. I just wish that it had more ‘slots’ to get the job done quicker :D

For anything larger, a Logjack/Timberjack is the ultimate in portable. Works great for me with a chainsaw, though it needs frequent repositioning to keep the cutting end elevated. Not for small brush or if you need to work higher up with a handsaw.

Something reminded me of Jeremy's cart:

original thread

So I'm imagining a child of this, a wheel barrow and a sawbuck. Somewhere to put tools, a wood support when cutting, and (why not) ability to take the cut wood away once the job is done.

It could be a frame that drops in a standard wheelbarrow perhaps, so it is a plain barrow when the extra function is not needed, or something that folds out of the way....
I think we may have some naked barrow chassis somewhere, maybe I could make something up.
