I gave up on trying to deal with a printer and refuse to buy another one.

I am sooo... scared that our printer's going to die, although the bigger issue is that computers with "new software" won't communicate with it.

Planned obsolescence at its worse, and us average people have so little control over it.

Hubby just sent me a video about how new electric cars won't have AM or FM radio, but only "proprietary" entertainment systems that will charge you. I can't drive and listen to car radios due to my hearing issue, but Hubby and my DiL do so all the time. We are trying to keep are cars working as long as possible, so we don't have to deal with the new, "enshitification" of the auto industry.

I gave up on inkjet printers years ago. Unless they get used on a regular basis the ink dries up in the cartridges or in the tubes after it leaves the cartridges rendering the entire printer a useless pile of plastic.

Sometimes I still need to print a thing though. Usually it is something black and white. I bought a black and white laser printer instead. Laser printers use toner. Toner does not go bad and dry up in the printer if not used enough. I print a few things a year and this printer still works fine. Replaced the first toner cartridge after a few years and the second is still working fine. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for the tip about laser printers. Maybe the next time dear hubby suggests buying a printer I will remember about laser printers ...

Today's struggle was with a laser printer. It's forgotten some of the "language" and has trouble with some pdf formats.  It also refuses to share the error code or talk to the troubleshooting software made by the same company.

There is something about a printer fight that just saps the will to try anything.  A 4 second job becomes 140 minutes of agony.

I can sympathize. Delete and reinstall the printer drivers is my go to when that stuff happens.

I hope you got it figured out.

It's not the driver, alas, the printer itself forgot how to hear the driver language.   Or perhaps, it part of the new improvements to the operating system that anticipates my needs and "improves" things as other gadgets can still communicate with the printer, but they can't open some of these troublesome pdf files.
