Gaia's Garden and Toby Hemenway

Very helpful, thank you! I'll suggest mowing a barrier, and if it's not feasible for space or zone, maybe she could sink a line of plastic edging to defeat the runners.

I was looking into buying Gaia's Garden and saw there is a price difference of about 10 bucks between the 1st and 2nd edition used.  My instinct would be to get the newer one or the cheaper one.  The 2nd edition is both.  I read a post from a few years ago, which was kind of a preliminary review of the 2nd edition.  There was no follow up though.  Anyone have any thoughts on which one I should buy?

Get the second edition. As far as I could tell it has everything in the first plus an extra chapter on urban permaculture and some additional pix and stories.

I love that book! But I hate Facebook and have deactivated

I am relatively new to the whole permaculture idea. I have not read 'Gaias Garden' but it is on my list. I found the discussion on the first page about invasives very interesting. I found a link where the author (Toby Hemenway) discusses the invasives issue.

I would love to get the book. I have been working on my garden for the past six years getting rid of torpedo grass. I use no chemicals.
I am looking forward to the day when I can say I have my own "Gaia's Garden". Thanks for all you do to encourage us to move forward into sustainability.

I had ordered it from the library several month ago together with a bunch of other permaculture books. Originally, I was at place 16 on the waiting list - have moved up now, but after listening to the podcasts reviewing the book, I decided to buy it when the next paycheck comes in....

Congratulations, your email appeal to buy Gaia's Garden after Toby's visit was successful in my case. And I only respond to that kind of thing about twice a year. I also bought How to Build with GridBeam, Gaviotas, and H&R Block at Home 2011 Premium. And if I did those links correctly, they should also add to your coffers for world domination.

I'm trying to put together a card on Toby Hemenway (I'm a big fan too) and I need some info to put on here around a drawing of his face. What would you say should be there? I need about 4 to 5 statements to describe his contributions to our permie-world. So far, I have thought about the following:

Toby Hemenway has taken Permaculture and made it easy to understand.
Bringing Permaculture Guilds and SuperGuilds to the masses

I'm lost at that point. He didn't invent anything in his book, but he is a huge contributor to what we do. Any other ideas?
