I think I know the answer - it wouldn't pull. BUT, the crazed mad scientist pyromaniac locked up inside of me can't stop thinking about this.

So, here goes. Can a batch box channel be incorporated into a j-tube to increase turbulence and "rockety-ness" ? Or, does that reduction in flow constrict too much to overcome the horizontal pull ?

A batch box is much more than its port. On the other hand, for tweaking J-tube performance, additions of a P-channel, trip wire, and kick tail may be incorporated into the construction -->

Or, how about a batch-box retrofit into the place of a former J-tube? -->

One of the ideas I've brought to the innovators gathering happened to be incorporating a port into a j-tube rocket. Ernie thought it quite intriguing and tried it in a simple mockup. It seemed to work, he changed it a bit and it seemed to work even better. We also wanted to have a baseline test of a bog-standard 8" Evans j-tube so an adjustable port was added to that. When running the test twice in two days there seemed to be no positive effect, rather the contrary. So this idea was ditched rather quickly. No problems with the draw of the stove, by the way.
