Looking for Canadian Source of Mashua and Yacon tubers. And also neem plants or fresh seed.

I hope I posted this in the right forum. It has been impossible for me to get my hands on any South American tubers. And all of the neem seed I have ordered came dry and didn’t germinate after 100s of seed and multiple techniques. I know it is fairly easy to get all of these plants in America through cultivariable and neem nurseries, but none of them will ship to Canada. I hope I’m not on a wild goose chase here. Any Canadian vendors or private backyard merchants around who are blessed enough to have these plants?

Did you try these folks, see if they'd ship to CAN? I got my mashua tubers and yacon plant from them last year, all are doing well. And you know WA is not far.

Yacon  is available from Flora Exotica in Quebec. I think they ship Canada wide on most items.

Talking to the people selling similar products might lead you somewhere, since they'd have an idea of what's out there and how to get it.  I've dealt a little with Flora Exotica and they seemed friendly and helpful.

This US operation has a long list of South American root cultivars. Great tuber selection for anyone in US. They do ship seeds to Canada but varieties are somewhat limited. Maybe they will select unlisted seeds for certain varieties if you speak with them.

Where are you located?  If you are in/near Vancouver I have some Yacon that I've overwintered and is sprouting.  I could spare some.

I was able to buy yacon this year from TreeEater Nursery on Denman island. They have a lot of unique plants and it's hard not to buy one of everything.

For those near Victoria, BC, Eco-sense is a good source of perennial tubers. I bought oca and skirret from them this year. They have a list of what they have in stock at

I got red and white Sunchokes last year from Glenora Farm near Duncan,BC. They were selling them as food but they sprouted nicely in my garden.

Eventually we will have a perennial edibles nursery at our new place on Gabriola Island near Nanaimo but we are a year or two away from having plants to sell. The only thing I think we have ready at this time might be chestnut trees. I imported 400 grafted European x Japanese chestnuts (various named marron varieties) from Washington state back in the spring to establish a chestnut polyculture orchard at the new farm. They are in big pots at the moment and some actually produced a handful of nuts this year which I wasn't expecting. By the time I noticed they were well along so I decided to just let them mature.

I am in Crystal Beach Ontario.  I would love to get some Yacon plant from you.

I have been looking for yacon to buy too. Tree Eater Nursery in BC and Green Barn Nursery in QC list yacon on their web sites but I think both are sold out for the year. I haven't found anyone else selling it in Canada yet.

Keep an eye on Tropic of Canada who were mentioned up-thread - they're in your area (Wainfleet). Yacon is usually harvested around first frost so they might have some available later this fall.
