On march 23, we received a "reddit hug of death" that crashed our servers for a bit.  A normal day of traffic in march was about 44,000 visits.  And on the 23rd we recorded 136,734 visits.

Since that day, Devaka has worked very hard to improve the innards of our servers.  We now think that that we can handle ten times that load.  

Further, since that day ...  it looks like google loves us more.  For example, yesterday we had 64,302 visits - and most of that was from google.  Maybe it has something to do with the pandemic.  But it seems like it is related to the reddit hug of death.  Hellifiknow.

This is the thread where I track this history of this sort of thing, so I thought I would record it before I forgot.  

And then years ago I started this thread with the words:

FWIW:  yesterday we had 404 visitors and 1756 page views.

Our all time record is 413 visitors in one day and 1912 page views in one day.  

It just seems like a fair amount.  I thought I would share.

I kinda stopped measuring.  

It sounds like 2019 was 19.2 million.  Did I do the math right?  So a bit shy of 20 million people.

Supposing that that number held steady ....

So at the end of 2021 we would be something around 190 million.  And sometime this summer we would hit 200 million.

I have several meetings per week with different peeps and the topic is, over and over, world domination.  How do we infect more brains with permaculture bits and bobs to solve global problems.

It is fun to report, that we have been seeing strong growth in traffic.  

Last month was a record month with 2,280,026 unique visits.  That is an average of 76,000 per day.  This month's average so far is 80,073 per day and yesterday we set a record of 100,579 unique visits in one day!  Yesterday's pageview count was 864,235, but the day before was event higher at 895,034!

Impressive! I'm curious, do the unique visits show if the visit is specifically to the permies.com home page, the forums front page, stuff like that? I know I have pointed some folks to the forums first, to get a taste of what people are doing hands-on before they zoom out and contemplate the larger philosophy.

There is some very limited breakdown.  Keep in mind that these are server logs, so a lot of the information that some stuff (like GA) provides are not here.

I can see that there is a lot more traffic to the forum home page than the home page.  Does that help?
