Hey, Paul!

You know that quick little 'log-on' box that sits at the very bottom right corner?  Is there any chance you could move it up to the TOP?  I wanna hit it the instant the forum comes up.       NOW!

Well, yeah, I could move it to the top.  But I have bigger, more sinister plans ...

As some of you know, I like to play a bit with the java programming language.  So I made a web site about ten years ago to broadcast my thoughts.  And people kept sending me emails so I set up a forum.  And lots of people came.  About a month ago, some of those people made new forum software in java and it is running now.  Take a look at http://www.coderanch.com/forums

As soon as that software gets rock solid, I hope to copy it to here.

So!  In a feeble attempt to completely dodge your question ...  have you tried that thing where it just keeps you always logged in?  I haven't seen that login thing you are talking about for months!

Ever since I changed from the bug-, spyware-, and spam-infested Internet Explorer to Mozilla Firefox, I find that I can't stay logged in forever, anywhere.  I think it's part of the security.

It was just a suggestion -- I didn't have my heart actually set on it.

I think at the top there is something about logging in.  If you go through that, there is (I think) a checkbox for just keeping you logged in.

The log-in button at the top requires TWO WHOLE STEPS!

The one at the bottom is instant.

Don't worry about it.  I just thought it might be some kind of click & drag thing.

Two whole steps that you end up doing just once every six months or so. As opposed to one step that you do every day!

No, two whole steps that I have to do every single time I come to this board.  As I mentioned above, Mozilla Firefox apparently won't allow me to remain logged in once I leave this site (or any other site).

Never mind, it's okay.

You must be special.  The minute I got the new Firefox, this problem started.  I wish I could go back to the old Firefox.  The new one isn't that great.  I wish these computer hacker/programmer types wouldn't try to make one thing to suit all people.  It can't be done, and it just screws up everything else.  Esp for us electronically challenged people.

Perhaps something changed your options under Firefox?  Check under the Tools->Options dialog, under "Privacy" (at the top.  Do you have "Accept cookies" checked?  You'll need that checked for the forever login.

Jeremy, thanks for the tips!  I went there and looked around.  Everything looked okay but one thing about how long to keep cookies, so I changed that.  So, I'll see if that helps.
