Once in a while, we get a person that, for whatever reason, wishes to switch their life into stealth mode.  We can facilitate that.  Simply do a name change to something that is a real sounding name, but not your actual name.  Easy peasy.

You can post here, in the tinkering forum (fastest response with the attention of lots of moderators - and then your request can be hidden). Or you can contact your favorite moderator, or you can write to what we call "the email river" permies@permies.com (slowest response).

Something I really recommend - even if you never expect to need to use Stealth Mode - set up a signature function in "your profile" instead of signing your name to each and every post manually.  That way it's easy to change the signature as life changes.

Nothing really disappears from the internet, so be careful what personal information you post. This is a good way of hiding your tracks though.....

An internet search, under the original name, still goes to those posts made here at permies under that name before the name change, even after the name change.

I can explain more if that sentence is too cluttered to make sense.....

The internet doesn't forget (yet), but this is one way of hiding your traces.

Reminder.

This only works if one chooses a real sounding name.  Not a joke or cunning word play.  Not a famous person.

Accounts that have trouble choosing real sounding names tend to get locked with the old  name, which achieves the opposite of stealth mode.

This is awkward. I've grown a second evil head. I'm going to need a machete and a tiny ad ...
