My daughter and I looked for 5 years for land that with our limited finances we could buy. We bought from Minnesota mineral and land program 11.5 acres 3 years ago.  We have cut our logs from our land and are hand milling them now. We have cleared land for timber frame home, barn, paddock/pasture, garden, storage shed/garage.
Now handling the disposal of excess tree debris of 4 huge piles.  Interesting.
This late spring through fall time period we will be preparing our timber frame joinery for our structure and raising of said structure.
We spent 3 years preparing draft to professional drawn timber frame plans with in depth book-like instructions.
So this late spring through fall the actual timber frame joinery cutting begins.
So....is it possible to gather a group of strangers/friends to minnesota for this process.
How does one go about gathering volunteers or $ low any pay to come here for one scheduled time frame to be determined by what works out.
We have taken on this future journey with monthly income resources.  We are, basically, homeless.  We are staying with my other daughter/son-in-law.  They have been gracious, but, we do need to have own place soon.
This spring I am moving my 1971 international airstream out there to live in while building.  Oh yes, we now have entrance driveway !  Exciting.

So one or more individuals interested in helping?
Advice?

Shelly, welcome to Permies! Your plans sound fantastic.

I added your post to the Permies Volunteer Offerings thread. Hopefully, you'll make some contacts through that.

Hi, Shelly  Welcome to permies!

Do you have a general contractor or a carpenter that you are or will be working with?

If so you might want to schedule a free workshop event or maybe have the cost of the event enough to pay the instructor who might be your general contractor or your carpenter.  Or maybe you might be able to find someone to be an instructor for a workshop event.

Here are some threads that I thought might help or be of interest to you.

This one is a thread where someone is looking for a general contractor.  You might place a similar request in the "roundwood and timber framing forum" or in our "jobs offered forum":

Here are some threads about having a workshop to give you an idea about what I am suggesting:

These are all old threads since I am just trying to explain what is possible.  Best wishes for building your new home.

I am finalizing an agreement with a nearby timber framer master hopefully soon.  Getting bids from different companies.  Hopefully, one of the two nearby timber framers will tackle this.
When I know for sure....I will open up project to others under this person's direction.
Hopefully alignment happens.
Thank you.  I will read the info.

Best of luck to you on your project. My wife and I are living in our RV while I build our timberframe home in SW Michigan. It's an adventure ;)

Congratulations on the land! My partner and I recently moved to Minneapolis, and I just started a framing job to pick up skills. Where in minnesota is this? We both work but are interested in learning more about this.

Hi Shelly,

My wife and I are in the process of locating land in Minnesota to build our own timber framed home, barn, etc.  We have not obtained the land but I am thrilled that you are in Minnesota and steps ahead of us. Would love to see more of your project.

Mike
