Hey all,
I am big, way past my youth, like the idea of taking a bicycle with me, I drive truck over the road. Haven't done that yet.
.
Anyway I saw this glide cycle on the internet, it looks great. It's powered by your body, but has front and rear brakes to slow, or stop you.
I would buy one, but the designer is a bit out there on the price. $1700, and evidently he thinks 300 pounds is heavy.
.
I'm not trying to be a cheapskate, but where do you stand on reverse engineering a product, or building your own version?
Here's some photos and a link to his YouTube channel.

Hey Mike.

For that specific design, yeah, I can see why 300 lbs would be heavy. It lacks cross bracing between the wheels, or anywhere except that arch and the "body." There are no structural triangles, and no uprights transferring your weight directly to the wheels.

I don't see the advantage to the design. Besides, as a larger-framed person myself, I don't know how I'd feel sitting inside one of these contraptions. When the wheels spread under weight, wouldn't the whole thing collapse on you?

You have to remember they are designed to take the weight off your legs when running.
They are not meant to be used to go and get the milk and paper each day.

What's the advantage over a traditional bike? Or if you don't feel fit enough for that one with electric assist?

Its simple;
From The web page
The 330lb model For bigger people

Imagine running with a fraction of your body weight.  Imagine the health benefits and fun of running really fast for miles, passing other runners and smiling
all the way because... it doesn't hurt to run with wheels.

That's because the GlideCycle has a proprietary Pelvic Suspension System and natural spring arch frame that lifts up to 90% of the runner's body weight comfortably.
This allows what we like to call,  "weightless running,"  with full ground contact, minimal joint impact and lots of fun exercises.
No matter what your physical condition, you can get the hypnotic padding of a realistic run...the athletic sweat, the deep breathing,
and the endorphins that make your day.  All of the gain without the pain.

Propel yourself with true running motion, but with the body weight of a child and the muscle power of an adult.
With a GlideCycle anyone can experience the virtually pain-free exhilaration of running five to eight-minute miles for short or long distances, whatever you prefer.
Sprint workouts are extremely efficient.  For example, a three-mile course of wind sprints in 20 minutes adds the perfect interval intensity to your workout week
and can drive off excess weight. GlideCycle every day if you want without the usual post-exercise pain.

GlideCycle is truly the world’s finest Outdoor Running Bike.
