With this contest, we timed how long each step takes. Some of it wasn't part of the contest (like dressing the loom or spinning the yellow warp), but we tried to get a sense of how long it took anyway.
On the whole, this shawl took over 60 maker hours.
If I was making it production style, 60 hours sounds about right for a fully handspun shawl made from raw wool. At minimum wage per hour (but let's face it, this isn't minimum wage skill - hired out, my cost is about $30-50 per hour and people are happy to pay that)... I'm seeing why makers say "oh, I couldn't possibly
sell that, no one would be willing to pay me for my time."
That's probably why it's so difficult to find fully handspun shawls for sale.
