Hello RMH friends!

These folks are selling ceramic paper insulation on Craig's list.  They say it is a refractory material.  It looks pretty thin for our work but I think I could layer it.   At $100 for 37 pounds of the stuff.  It seems like a great deal to me.

What do you all think?

I think I am going to get a few rolls,  one for my next RMH and I'll donate a roll or two to Wheaton Labs!

so it is 197' long.

from what i can tell you would need 16 plys to get to 1 inch.

197' / 16 = 12' of 1 inch ceramic wool. which makes it 12' x 4'

I think you would be better off getting a thicker superwool. I got a 23' roll of 1" superwool from a member on here for 140 Canadian dollars shipped to my door. It was 2 ft wide

I think 100 USD for it is way to much. Plus it is not the superwool stuff with the better safety rating.

How do you plan on layering it and gluing it together?

It probably has a use, i am just curious what you plan on using it for?

Thanks Jordan!

I am building a RMH in a place I am renting.  So the "sneaky heat" version.  I was thinking this material would be a great under layment to give extra protection to the floor.  I was also going to rap it around the heat riser many times to make a thick layered blanket.

It sounds like you are saying the heat riser would be better off with the thick stuff.

Thank you so much fro your input!   I guess this stuff is not a cheap as I thought!   Thanks!

Natural gas heat uses 20 tons out of 30. This tiny ad is carbon neutral.
