My wife just encountered, what for us is, an odd problem.   Two pairs of old jean split vertically from the knee to the ankle.  I have seen many jeans with holes in them and horizontal tears at the knee, but I have ever seen a vertical split  ... and certainly not one that large.   The jeans were CJBanks.  I am assuming a manufacturing quirk, but I am curious,

If they were made in the same lot, there could possibly have been a flaw in the fabric they were cut from, that no one noticed, in qc.
