I recognized a plant someone posted early because they have started to become available in floral shops in the spring. I know primroses are perennial in their native lands but here they're purely winter and very early spring and then die in the heat. It's the same with tulips, crocus, most varieties of daffodil as we don't have enough winter to trigger forming new flowers. I hear more northerly climates use ornamental tropical plants the same way, though it's cold that kills them. They do at least cost less and last longer than an equal number of cut flowers.
Anyone here find them worth it? I do plant a lot of ornamental plants, but I like the kind that multiple. Either self seeding annuals or plants that need occasional division.

I'm not keen on how a lot of annual flowers are sourced. That means if I want them, I have to start them myself. That's a problem... give me some veggie seeds and I'll usually get excellent germination. I'm on my third try this spring trying to get Marigolds to germinate. That's ridiculous! Before you ask, I've got 3 different seed pkgs I'm working from.
That said, I'm not sure the pkgs came from a reliable source. I have friends who abuse their seed stashes...
