I can a lot of beans every year. What can I use them for besides just chili or baked beans? Are they ok to make miso or tempeh?

Hi Steve, I am not a cook.  My wife uses green bean for all sorts of things.  She even makes really tasty chili with green beans. What kind of beans do you have?

Steve,

Have you tried one of the favorites from New Orleans, Red Beans, and Rice?

This is the only way I like to eat pinto beans.

Another favorite from my childhood is Succotash which is a vegetable dish made with lima beans and corn.

Dear hubby likes bean with bacon soup.

He also likes refried beans with cheese and a flour tortilla for burritos.

Cuban black bean soup!
Gallo pinto (Costa Rican black beans and white rice) [you can use whatever beans you have, no matter what color, they'll be great]
Hummus is awesome with beans or lentils too, not just chickpeas!
Here in Brazil most people eat beans (tempered with garlic, salt, and maybe onion) every single day with rice. I like to put them on toast sometimes.
Don`t forget bean and bacon soup.

I have a friend who makes this delicious black bean chocolate cake for breakfast.. Mind you he uses the canned black beans, so I’m not sure if this is something that can be donde with homegrown beans.. I don’s see why not.. I gotta ask him for the recipe! I’ll post it here

Ok I found it!!
Ready?

Black Bean Cake

3 cups (2cans) cooked black beans (drained and rinsed)
8 large eggs
1 tbsp pure vanilla extract
1 tsp salt
8 tbsp (1 stick) butter, softened
1 cup coconut sugar
1/2 cup cocoa powder
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
2 tbsp water

Preheat oven to 380 degrees.

Grease a 13x9 inch cake pan and dust with cocoa powder

Place the beans, eggs, vanilla, sugar and salt into blender or food processor (I used my vita mix). Process or blend on high until beans are completely liquified.

Add the remaining ingredients and process on high for 2 minutes until everything is well incorporated.

Pour into your prepared pan. Bake 30-40 min until the top is slightly rounded and firm to the touch. Do not overbake. My center actually still looked a tiny but underdone but remember that it will keep cooking a little even after you take it out.

Have you heard of molletes?
They are a tasty Mexican snack food. Basically think of a pizza boat, but instead of pizza sauce, you spread refried beans on your baguette half, or any kind of bread really, top with cheese--could be queso fresco, the crumbly farmers cheese of Mexico or it could be something akin to Monterrey Jack , and toast. Once out of the toaster add salsa, a chunky salsa like pico de Gallo traditional, but any salsa will do. Sometimes cooked bacon or chorizo is crumbled on pretoasting. But usually not. Sauteed mushrooms are also a yummy addition under the cheese.

Uh oh, we're definitely being carded. Here, show him this tiny ad:
