I have some pictures from the past months that I haven't posted - maybe I'll get to those after a bit. So, today, I'll just post some current snow pictures. I decided the sun melting things along the roof lines makes for some significant icicle danger!

Oh my. I posted one of these icicle pics to Facebook and a friend said she worked with a gal who about lost her eye to an icicle. Wow.

Be safe out there, people!

Huzzah for bees! I collected a swarm in March, it's fun to watch the colony grow through the little window in our top bar hive.

The last of last year's garlic harvest from base camp hugels. We're still building soil with cover cropping (so no fertilizer or compost was used), and only irrigated once (if I recall) in an attempt to save seeds planted in what was supposed to be a rainy season that turned into an unseasonably hot and dry spell.

So close to no irrigation and no fertilizer but the first/second year hugels and other growies.

First pic, some sky drama at base camp last week. My phone camera did not do justice to the colors.

Second, a crosscut of the "soil" (ahem, rocks!) here at base camp. This is along the volcano road built last year. Note the tree roots poking through the rocks below the thin topsoil layer.

Third, how do trees of that size (one that I think was felled for road construction) grow on bedrock like this? Amazement happens.

I'm liking the jewel tones of the hound's tongue flowers.

Paul might prefer I pick them for bouquets instead of letting them become annoying burrs.
