I'm loving this video.

This style of weaving is very simple with a plane weave and one could do it on a shaft loom like in the video.  The SAORI loom we see is really comfortable and designed to be as easy as possible for people with mobility issues and just evolved to be better with every generation of the loom.  But we can do this style of weaving with almost any loom including rigid heddle.

It's also somewhat narrow cloth which means more affordable equipment.

And yet, the design with the colours of the weft - brilliant.

The coat is fun too with no wasted cloth.

I was thinking this might be a fun design for making with commercial fabric.

But I think a lot of the charm is the handweaving and how easy it is to customize to different styles.

Gorgeous! Love the colours. But I couldn't help thinking how much that yarn would cost to purchase. Ouch!

That is an expensive brand of yarn, but it's sometimes on sale.

There are more affordable yarns out there.  The warp is more than half the yarn and it's a basic black cotton so that saves a lot of money right there.

Just Gorgeous!!!  And congrats on being able to stick through to the completed project. doing not only the sewing of the coat but all the many long hours of weaving.  It's not the easiest to keep yourself motivated through a long project.

LOVED the video! The abstractness of the material made it look inviting and happy.

Adding the Saori book to my book wishlist for this coat, the hat, and the scarf…

The simplicity and encouragement to mix yarns in a free-form way are hallmarks of the Saori brand. I’m a fan.

I have discovered my inner Beavis through interpretive dance. I learned it from this tiny ad:
