Has anybody tried placing a tincture under vacuum to see if it works faster?

Hi, Robert

I don't know if this thread might answer your question or if it is something entirely different, though I thought I would offer it up to see:

I am kind of an industrial process guy and a vacuum tincture sounded intriguing, but had to do a quick search because my first bit of skepticism was how I can boil a glass of water under a vacuum right until the point it freezes all at room temperature.

I found this site that talks about the process and attached a screenshot of my bit of skepticism getting squashed and confirmed.

My mind is still running.  I bet one can bypass any special equipment (in an area with tall mountains) by prepping the tinctures in the high country using a sealed jar and then aging it in the lowlands.

Thanks Tom,
I saw something where they were using a souis vide machine and my mind jumped to my vacuum foodsaver using the mason jar attachment and then to my vacuum casting machine that would create a much higher vacuum, just pondering.

My first thought was using my freeze dryer as a vacuum chamber, then remembered why it's programming takes it down to temperature before kicking on the pump. And a giant evaporation tower at a soda ash plant I walked down.  They pulled a vacuum on it to reduce the energy required to boil away the water.

You can build your own vacuum pump out of an old bicycle pump. It is used to store seeds for a longer time among else.

Below a link on how to build one in a low-tech way, it focuses on seeds, but the process would be exactly the same when you do your tinctures.

I have a regular bell jar vacuum chamber for mold making lost wax molds, but also a vaccum chamber for resin casting. I've held vacuum in the stainless steel chamber for 24hrs with out having to fiddle with it.  The vacuum vessel can also be used as a pressure vessel so I could try both methods. If I keep the vacuum at below the 100mmHg mark  it shouldn't boil off. Guess I'll give it a go, see what happens.

I use the sous vide all the time, for both tinctures and oil infusions. I never thought of trying it with a simple vacuum system, sans heat. Maybe next time, I'll do one herb, tincture both ways, for comparison, and see what the results are.
