Is this the place for worm discussion ?

I just spotted this and wonder, might it be worm castings?

Ponderosa pine sawyer’s shreds, from a couple weeks ago.

A little rain this morning.  that’s my best guess, and evidence of worms is very exciting!

It does not look like the worm castings around here, unfortunately. But, there are different kinds of worms, and I am not a worm expert.

It might be pine gall disease.

Thanks, both of you. It is very atypical for worm castings and I am not a worm expert either. The reason I thought worm castings was because there are two little holes and one at the bottom and one at the top right of center that are the size and shape that we do see in worm castings. It’s just the color that is wrong. My logic on this is that worm castings are the product of what the worm ate and its digestive tract. There is a very red component to the bark of the tree that was taken down, a healthy tree.

It does look to me like something ate the red material and supplied a lot of mucus.

I’m open to suggestions and discussion!

Too bad I didn’t see the material being deposited.😊

I have just watched some thing down inside the hole making a deposit at the outside. I am pretty sure now that it wasn’t a worm because at one point the creature came out far enough that I could see little appendages and I don’t think worms have appendages at their worm casting deposition end!

No idea what creature is doing it but it’s not a worm. Maybe it is an ecological analog. Is that a term? Some creature who does the same job as a worm but isn’t a worm is what I am trying to say
