Hey all, how are you doing?
I'm about to buy a small and cheap piece of
land (0,39 acres) about an hour and a half from where I live. Still a student and planning to work for a while in the
city after that, so I won't be able to tend to the place that often.
My idea is to set up a system that could take care of itself, with me providing the minimal amount of work. Here is a photo of the place taken in October 2011:

You can clearly see the kind of
swale going around the property, but in 2012 it looks more like this:
Ideally, I'd like to go there once a month to pick a car load of greens/vegetables/fruits. It's in USDA zone 5a or 4b
Eventually, setting up a small living
fence around the corner seems to be a good idea... although the electric lines passing right through may cause problems.
So I guess a kind of food forest would be best for that scenario? What kind of plants would you recommend (
fence or harvesting)?
