I am in Costa Rica right now and for a few more weeks. Wondering if anyone knows of any good sites to visit. I haven't been able to visit any tropical permaculture sites since I got into permaculture, though I visited one in Nicaragua BEFORE I had my official introduction. I know there are a couple places southeast of San Jose, but I am looking for places west of San Jose and around Monteverde area. Let me know i you have any suggestions. I have heard there isn't much but I thought I would try.

If your travels take you farther, I could recommend a couple of places south of Dominical, along the coast and inland.

For future reference in Costa Rica:
check the schedule at Uvita Tropical Studies Institute: http://www.utsi.org/
and also Punta Mona: http://puntamona.org/

Places south of Dominical please?
I am located an hour up from the coast at Quepos.
Also, for anyone else reading - Luminescence on Isla Bastimentos (Bocas del Toro, Panama) is pretty unreal in terms of the site.

Hi Soni,

If you'd like you can go about 4 hours from Monteverde to the Peninsula de Nicoya and visit PachaMama village. Its an intentional community and transformation center. Although its not 100% organic its making steps that way. They also have a permaculture course coming soon. Anyway, its a great place to visit. their site is http://pachamama.com and I also recommend Puntamona, which was mentioned in this thread. Its a bit far off but worthwhile - just check their schedule first. Otherwise google permaculture costa rica and see what comes up

Enjoy

Your might want to ask Fred Morgan one of our moderators, I've been to his sustainable funiture website and they grow some jaw dropping tree's and well let's not talk about how awesome the furniture is.

As mentioned there is UTSI in Uvita. It has been 5 years since I was there and as I remember it as respectful place. Close to public transportation during down time.

Near Perez Zeledon, there is a farm named Earth Rose. A 40 acre farm that is family run. I believe to get a hold of them one needs to join their yahoo group. http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/earth_rose_farm/

Not long ago Osa Mountain Village was looking for help. Not really sure what sort of help. They seem to be in the market of selling real estate but also trying to develop their sustainability. Could be a lead.

You may already be gone but wanted to offer our site as another potential:

Costa Rica Center for Natural Living @ Finca La Familia

We are located a bit South of San Isidro el General in Perez Zeledon

Facebook: Costa Rica Center for Natural Living

We are just getting our volunteer program going as well for anyone who wants to come for a longer stay. See the Volunteer page on our web-site or posted here on this Forum

Thanks

This is a great thread for anyone looking for permaculture places in Costa Rica. Please add more as you find them.

I visited Punta Mona last week and I'm so happy I finally made it out there. It's at an "end of the world" kind of place, raw, beautiful and isolated. The food was off the hook.

Check out Lake Arenal Brewery/Hotel (located in one of the best spots in Costa Rica - Lake Arenal). They do tons of sustainable shit. Plus they host volunteers and interns... possibly give you jobs.
