I bought some rugosa roses from Rain Tree nursery a few years ago and they finally made fruit, after a successful
deer cage upgrade, but the fruit was not very big, just dime-sized. Is it because I am not good at growing roses, and they are sad and unwilling to make big hips? They are planted next to the
compost and get lots of sun,
water and banana peels. Or do I need a different cultivar? The leaves do not look like the rugosa roses I remember from coastal Washington either, which is where I've seen truly great
rose hips. Those rugosas had shiny, waxy, crinkled dark green leaves, and mine are paler green, less waxy, almost dull, less crinkled and somewhat smaller, with a differenly toothed margin.
