Anyone in the Northern reaches of Scotland may be interested in joining this group: Far North Seed Savers

There are no commercial seed strains that have been developed in Scotland recently, so finding a seed that suits the short season and long summer daylength is a bit hit and miss. This group has been set up to share seeds, and growing information, and hopefully develop new varieties that are more suited to Northern climes. They have already shared out seed to start a carrot landrace (and i'm hoping to add this to my landrace mix too and vice versa). Although generally the aim is to include gardeners between 48 and 49 deg North, they have let me join at 47.5 degrees too. Just thought I'd put this here so that others who are in the North of Scotland can be aware of the group and maybe join in.

I wonder if there might be a climate analog in Alaska and gardeners there with good seeds for you as well?  Short season, long days...

I'm sure you are right Mike. Alaska is probably a bit further North, so anything that does well there should love Scotland by comparison!
It is early days yet for us though, I only found out about it a week or so ago, but am quite excited!

You can't have everything. Where would you put it?
