First, I put this in
trees but the plant in question is more of a bush. Fifty years ago, when we lived in town for a year or so, I helped the neighbor lady plant some flowers near this bush. It was a big bush, easily taller than the first story of the house it grew against and very spreading as well. I don't remember what the leaves looked like but the flowers, which were white in color, had an amazing fragrance. They grew in clusters and hung down like little bells, each individual one was maybe 1/2 across. I know it wasn't any form of bridal veil, mock orange or spirea. I've never seen it at a nursery or in catalogs, but maybe it would need to be in bloom for me to recognize it.
I want one for my
yard. Does it ring any bells with anyone?
