Hello, my name is Aida. My husband (David) and I, along with our two young kids currently live in Northern VA. We’d like to gauge interest in forming an intentional community centered on sustainability, independence, nature, and children. We’re thinking of buying land in southern or central VA, and ideally would like a few families to join us. We want to get ahead of a potential energy crisis/inflation and ensure we can eventually (~5 years) grow the majority of our own food. Currently we have a small garden in our yard, but would really like to expand to a larger garden, livestock, and the proverbial village where we can count on each other for support and camaraderie.

Please comment with your emails or message me and we’ll connect!

Hello Aida, there are a number of thriving intentional communities in central Virginia: Twin Oaks, Acorn, Shannon Farm, Emerson Commons, those are the ones I'm familiar with.

Are you familiar with any of these?  Or would you prefer to start fresh with a new community?

Hi Aida & David,
I am currently looking for a community like what you are describing, in Central Virginia. I have a 10 year old son and we have spent the last 2 years traveling, wwoofing, learning homesteading skills and exploring different communities in different areas. We recently landed in Virginia, connected with some good people there and are aiming to make it our permanent home. I'd love to connect and find out more about your vision.
My email is annalogy@protonmail.com
Feel free to reach out.

I'm also in NOVA, and would appreciate chatting.  Also, look into Living Energy Farms and Magnolia in Louisa.

Central Virginia here.  Here is some of what I have been up to as homesteading with the intent of building intentional community:

Hi Aida — also in NOVA and would love to connect with a group of permies in this area. Also looking at areas in the western parts of Virginia for a future move and would love to be near a permie community when I do. (Not sure my SO is ready to dive into living inside an intentional community, though that may become a possibility at some point.) If anyone on this thread knows about areas near the Virginia mountains where permies are setting up shop, I would be extremely interested in hearing about them so that I can focus my search in those areas. I know there are some in the Louisa area, but I don’t know if I could handle the heat in that part of the state.
