The one thing I wish Yanmar would have kept on these newer tractors is multiple-speed (selectable) PTO on the rear shaft. In these newer units (which may be configured such for the American market), they are configured like most others in the US -- 540 rpm at an engine speed of 3200 rpm. [Larger tractors often have the option of selectable 540/1000 rpm on the rear PTO.] For certain applications, I totally understand why one would want that power from the higher rpm on the engine. But I like running a small generator at times from the PTO and don't need that power. In such a case, my older Yanmar F15D can switch to "1000 rpm level", thereby getting the generator into the functional range for electrical output without winding the engine up to 3200 rpm. I may be thinking about this incorrectly, but the lower rpm on the engine (as long as they aren't *too* low) would seem to save on fuel and engine wear, especially if needing to run for several hours at constant speed to provide electricity in emergencies.
Anyway, good thing the local dealer for these is on the other side of the state from me!... ;-) .... otherwise I may be tempted into too many after-work 'drive-by's to look at inventory.
