Gonna post updates as we go. Building a 6” batch rocket for some friends in an older strawbale house that is somewhat leaky. Would have preferred putting in an 8” but no space for a build that big.

Sawed back the floor and built the firebrick pad on the cement pad under the house so no weight issues or combustion issues.

Door is from firespeaking and floor channel from dragontech (thanks Tom!)

Specs are all to Peters design (thanks Peter!).

Barrel has 12” gap to lid and split barrel for the bench.

Great job Daniel & Crew!

What did you cap your firebox with before covering with the blanket?

Hi Gerry, I have a friendly potter who owns a studio and I claim all of the kiln shelves that have become too pitted or covered in glaze to be used any longer. I encourage you all to make friends with a potter as they really rip through these things and have no use for them other than giving them away.

Hello lords and ladies! An update on the slow progress on this build. I did the guts of the stove and the owner has been hard at work cobbing this bad boy in. Installed the chimney today and took it for a test spin/burn.

Performed well.  Minor smoke back when I loaded it all up but I blame that on the fact that I forgot to seal the lid back on. Have a mighty puff from under the lid then sucked back in as it took off. Mid burn the stack temp was around 180F.

Finished product!  Running like a champ and fully plastered with a lime, sand , TP plaster. Owner did some glass stones on the face which came out nice but I suspect may need to be adhered down later if they start falling out.

Top of barrel is hovering around 600F with the chimney exhaust about 160F mid burn. Bench reading at 110F at hottest with about 3” of masonry on top of the split barrel.

Very pleased with the outcome. I think their house should stay comfortable this winter.
