I have come to realize that there is only one thing I truly understand in life and that is fishing...and fishing usually isn't catching. No matter how much you know, it usually doesn't work out. But, I would still rather be fishing than most anything else.

I recall a piece by Mark Kingwell a while back on a similar topic. Perhaps you and he are on the same track?

I have a similar feeling towards hunting. I am a wanderer, not someone who waits in a tree stand. It becomes most of the time hiking with a rifle. By the time I find my prey, I tend to be in a swamp in a valley between the biggest hills and the thought of dragging something out cools my desire to take the shot. I think being in nature is where it is at.

Here are some great "Life Lessons":

https://permies.com/t/178054/wished-learned-school-didn

My Dad took me on a lot of fishing trips which I still remember fondly:

Here is an article that talks about the importance of teaching kids to fish:

Perhaps even more importantly, fishing also provides an opportunity for families to spend some quality time together out in nature while learning some important lessons.

Teaching your children to fish will not only give them a hobby that they can share with their own kids someday, but it will help them to learn many valuable lessons about life in general.

Quite lovely. There is something to it. The peace and quiet, the unknown of the yield. Letting go of expectations. I have no water around me but I grew up fishing and can agree.
