Yep, definitely daffodils/ jonquils. The French word for them is jonquille, so I guess that is why they are sometimes called jonquils . Some varieties are also called narcissus,
As mentioned above, they are the harbinger of spring and I personally can't help feeling that although winter might not be quite over, seeing them reminds me of the renewal of the seasons and the possibilities ahead. I also do love a few of them in a vase to brighten up the greyness of the day. Every time I see them on my kitchen table, it lifts my spirit.
On the other hand, they are also very toxic for
rabbits and pocket gophers who tend to keep well away from them. This year, I intend to plant a ring of them around my artichokes and see if it helps, as artichokes in my garden seem to be their favorite gourmet meal! Watch this space!!!
