I know someone who saw a dermatologist and was diagnosed with a small spider angioma on their face.  The recommended fix is a fancy zappy needle to poke in there and zap the blood vessel responsible.  I figured I'd check here to see if there's a natural medicine solution to the problem?

I know I've seen something, and remember thinking it was pretty cool - lemme see if I can find it, again. Edited to add: ok, a quick surface hunt comes up with a hoot-ton of possible herbal &/or home remedies. The primary things to keep in focus are things that promote a healthy circulatory system, and tightening of the surrounding skin - both are things that can become issues, as we age. I'll dig deeper, in abit, and see if I can weed out the less likely candidates, and hone in on the ones with a higher likelihood of success.

Spider veins tend to be common to the women in my family, and looking deeper into the typical causes (genetics, sedentary work[sitting in an office, etc], vein issues), it makes sense.  Almost everything I've found (both medical and herbal) points to most of the same non-surgical treatments, but please, always check for contraindications, with meds, before using any of these herbs. Different medication/herb combinations play differently, together - some are fine, others not so much. I'll always strongly recommend using organics, of course.

Internally:
Horse Chestnut extract
Pine bark extract
German Chamomile tea
Ginger
Garlic
Gingko
Turmeric
Bilberry or blueberry
Potassium
Magnesium
Basil
Citrus (particularly Lemon)
Eat to boost antioxidants, omega 3s
Eat to avoid sugars, artificial flavors, colors, etc

Topically:
Witch hazel compresses
ACV compresses

PT:
Regular exercise
Gentle massage
Compression (stockings, etc)
Keep elevated, when possible
If it's in the legs, avoid crossing them

This is actually something I've been meaning to dig into, for some time, so thank you for the added impetus, Mike!

Thanks Carla!  I'm not sure if spider angioma and spider veins are the same thing?  This is just one red spot on their face.  Seems like a topical treatment would be more appropriate for a single location that an internal "systemic" fix...  But I don't know much :)

Yup - same thing - spider beings is just the common name, which is why I wanted to include it - I'm also hoping others who have problems with the ol' spideys will find the information helpful.

In this case, I'd probably go with the witch hazel. Wet (not to the point of dripping) a cotton ball, with the witch hazel - a little bit of Lavender essential or rose water will go a long way toward making the scent more pleasant, as well as bringing its own healing properties to the game. Hold it in place for a long as possible, repeating a couple times a day, until its gone or accepting less noticeable.

What Carla said! Avoiding alcohol and temperature extremes also helps.

I have a problem with spider veins and spider angiomas (the same thing, except the affected vein is all clumped together to make a bright red raised spot). I had the fancy zappy needle thing. It worked, at least, till the angiomas came back in the exact same places, and brought friends along too!

Since taking pine bark extract internally for a different problem, those pesky veins and red spots have improved. They haven't disappeared completely from my face, but are significantly better, with next to none now elsewhere.

I'm only 65! That's not to old to learn to be a permie, right?
