Hey everyone. I have read about rocket mass heaters recently. Just found this website. .
i have a 1500 sq ft house with unfinished basement. Its an older house, and i tried a wood fired furnace but was getting too much smoke out of the chimney and my wife didnt like the neighbors knocking on the door because of the smoke. So i took it out. Used a pellet stove but had to use fans to help circulate the heat even with a blower on the unit.

Can i heat my house with minimal smoke, and less electricity with a rocket mass heater? and 2, how do i build it.

Sorry for sounding stupid, but i never heard of this until 2 weeks ago.

David Todd : Welcome to Permies, and a Big Welcome to The Permies Rocket Stove/ Rocket Mass Heaters Forum Threads! You will long remember your 1st few
posts here! With over 17,000 members in a multiplicity of Disciplines/Interests, you will rub shoulders with a wide, or is that a wild range of thoughts on any and
every subject under the sun !

I am afraid that you will have to be very, very, lucky with the lay-out of your house, Did you Include your basement in the Sq. ft. figure? Is there a solar compo-
nent to your houses layout, or a large Thermal Mass ? Can you share a general location, and your houses Orientation ?!

A few pictures would help a great deal, as would a sketch up, Simple modifications may easily perform a miracle, but though you may get several well meaning
suggestions here, no one can dictate what you have to accept to live with the efficiency and economy a Rocket Mass Heater R.M.H. !

Attending to the Dragon that lives in your R.M.H. is a labor of love, and your R.M.H.must be given 'Pride of Place', and any attempt on your part to tuck it away
in an out-of-the-way-corner, should be a moment of clarity allowing you decide that this heating unit is probably not for you ! Perhaps instead you would like a
Masonry Heater at 10X or 30X the price will convince you to give it the 'Pride of Place' to allow you to use it efficiently, and conveniently !

This is where I ask you to go to cobcottage.com to Download your PDF Copy $15.oo of Evans' And Jackson's Great Book 'Rocket Mass Heaters', there is STILL
no other book in any language, with more Rocket stove/ rocket mass heater family information !

A small side trip to ernieanderica.info will allow you to find and click on 'consulting and booking events', this will deliver you to 'Arrange a workshop' where you
will find and click on 'site planning' which will get you to 'site information and planning' following the steps thereafter will soon show you whether you are truly
open to the opportunity for change, that you MUST be willing to make to live with a R.M.H. and it's Dragon ! Hope to hear from you soon !

For the Good of The Craft ! Be safe, keep warm ! As always, your comments and questions are solicited and are Welcome ! PYRO - Logically Big AL !
I found a beautiful pie. And a tiny ad:
