Hello!
I am a 24 year old slovenian, and both me and my boyfriend are trying to start our life. Both of us studied something "green" (him biology and me ecological farming). We wore trying for years even before we met each other to fit in and be normal so to say. But we just cant help it, we both know we dont fit in especially since were we come from people are either super traditional or super "hip and with the time and modren". But even the simple farmers arent what we are hopeing to be. We both know that we want a homested. Its not our plan to have someting huge and make money from it, for now all we crave is a place were we can be ourselfs and have some time to sit with our feelings and wash away the "pain" all of this modren life has caused us.
We have also been to Gavdos - a hippie island, where its kind of a no mans land type of life. We really enjoyed it.
But we are looking to buy a place for 15.000 €, all we care is that its somewere green, remote and full of nature. It also needs enough space to at least gave the potencial to produce enugh food to feed us 30% of what we need to live.
I know this message is all over the place but i just wanna write it out and find help were i can.
We arent really looking to live in a community, we really do need some time to heal, and then who knows were life will take us, maybe we will start a community, maybe something else.
All we do know for sure is we cant don this reagular life, and i belive we cant force change but i do wanna try every option. We've been looking for a place for over a year in sloveina and countrys near us.
I appreciate any help and would love to explain anything if there are questions. I found this site kind of randomly but i am so so happy i did. It looks like a lovely community and i cant wait to read all you had written so far.
Have a great day, and best of luck and joy to you all.

Welcome to the forum.

While you are looking for that homestead why not try out your skill or learn some on someone else's homestead?

Along with volunteering is usually a place to stay and meals.

Woofers are probably in your region:

Hi Anchy, Welcome to Permies! I hope you find your place of peace soon. It sounds like you both have useful knowledge for growing things to eat, although the gap between theory and practise in many things can be huge. It's never as easy as it sounds!
On finances, you are at the start of life and this aspect can be a challenge. This thread is a fairly good discussion which might give you some things to think about. Paul (the site owner) is also a big proponent of residual income streams -  set up enough and you never have to work again!
Good luck in your search.

A great cost-effective way to start homesteading is by studying the propagation of plants. Once knowledgeable, you could politely ask people for cuttings or divisions of plants to start growing plants in container based gardens until you have the land you are searching for. Look for YouTube videos on propagation.

Good luck to you and your friend in this new adventure. I've been living and homesteading off grid since 2008. Raised two daughters here mostly by myself. What I did was find some scrub timberland with nothing at all on it but trees and went from there. I was able to buy more land by buying poor land far away from cities and towns which was just what I was wanting, away from people, poor land not so much. lol Would I do it again, in a heart beat! Best decision I ever made was getting away from the cities and rat race of modern life...  But the real bonus was all the work here really has improved my health by orders of magnitude! I am an M.S. survivor and never expected to regain anywhere near this level of ability after having to relearn to walk, talk and write again in my 30's.
