I like to have turkey as the main dish, hubby likes ham.  One year I had a venison roast smoked at the local BBQ place.

For several years our tradition was to have tamales.

This year we are celebrating Thanksgiving on Sunday and our main dish will be ribs with green beans and sweet potatoes.

The most unusual main dish I have heard of is raccoon,  I have not tried raccoon though we have several that live here or close.

Turkey, ham, and even a bit of venison or elk would pass muster on most modern Thanksgiving tables. But a century ago, many diners would have been just as happy to see some raccoon sitting next to the gravy boat.

Actually my brother-in-law's side of the family is doing chinese takout this year to reduce the number of dirty dishes to clean up later :)

Though, normally we have a "traditional" thanksgiving feast with turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, rolls, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes and marshmallows, and various pies.

We decided to go a little non traditional.  We are having a couple of thick ribeye steaks, sweet potatoes , dressing ( (my wife insists), and maybe green bean casserole.  The Turkey will stay in the freezer until Christmas or New Year.

Appetizer was spinich artichoke dip with low-carb tortillas for dipping.
Main dish was Caijun jambalaya from my good friend's ancestral family recipe down in Louisiana.  Side dishes were kale strawberry salad, low-carb stuffing and green bean casserole with mushrooms in it.
Dessert was low-carb apple pie and pumpkin pie.
My MIL is really into lower-carbing everything so anything she had an influence on was like that, to the detrament of our tastebuds re. the pie, but I didn't try the stuffing since I don't fancy it anyways, and the spinich artichoke hid the low-carb taste of the tortillas!  At least my father liked the pie, but I don't think pie should feel/taste like I'm eating granola, just my 2 cents worth.  At least I got my sparkling cider, and I'm such a green bean casserole junkie so I went to town on that, and the Jambalaya was a hit on all sides.  We had 8 people this year, 2 more than usual, and that is the max. number that can fit into our apartment without disaster striking haha.
