Here are some pictures of Paul's electric tractor being built by Steve Heckeroth. One of the interesting features in this model are the removable battery packs. Which will let you use the tractor until the battery is low then switch out the packs and use it some more.

Cool!

What is the donor?

How are you going to switch out the batteries? That isn't exactly light.

Here is Steve with one of his earlier tractors:

Here is one of Steve's designs that I thought we were originally going to get:

But Steve talked me out of the solar canopy because we have so much forest land. He pointed out that the solar panels would get wore out with scratching branches pretty quickly.

This will be a 48 volt tractor. Steve says that this tractor has a pretty good chance in beating Tim's jumbo diesel pickup in a tug-of-war.

It will have a loader, 3-point hitch and PTO.

I believe that the tractor will be able to switch its own battery packs out. Using the loader.

It sounds like there will be an on-board battery pack, and there will be the ability to pick up an extra battery pack with the loader and plug into it - or with the 3-point-hitch and plug into that.

Extra ballast AND runtime. Put it on the 3 pt when using the loader and on the loader when using the 3 pt (or hitch). Cool.

Just so you know, this tractor will be featured in our solar workshop June 16-20, 2014.

Are you okay? You look a little big. Maybe this tiny ad will help:
