So I am going through all the different badges and their requirements.  For the food prep it mentions no plastic. Does that mean that I cannot use meat I purchased at the store? I currently live in the city and am doing some of the PEAs for that reason. I want to make a stew, but the meat is in packaging as I bought it from the store. I don't want to break any guidelines & rules, but I am not sure what exactly is meant by "no plastic".  Thanks!! --Tess

For food prep BB submissions, the person submitting will avoid including the following in their submissions.

The following are strictly forbidden:

- Aluminum cookware
- Teflon and similar materials
- Microwave ovens
- Plastic touching the food, including cooking utensils and zip lock bags

You are documenting that you can accomplish a task in a permie way to a potential Otis. When you submit a BB, just make sure you are capturing the evidence that the BB requests without utilizing something that is forbidden.

Timothy, does that mean ANY PLASTIC WHATSOEVER or is store bought food ok (as I am in the city)? I do my very best to live the permalife, but it is a bit harder to do that while living in an apartment, in the city.  I try to grow some of my herbs, including green onions. I try to buy as much of my food w/o packaging (ie in bulk). But I really need to know if the packaging my meat came excludes the meat I plan to use.  Thanks.

Maybe you could ask the butcher at the store you shop at if he/she would put some in a container you bring to the store, like glass or stainless steel.

Unless the BB requires providing evidence of where you sourced the meat from, I don't believe you will have to worry about that kind of concern.

A badge bit requires specific evidence to prove a task to be done. As long as you provide your proof, without the previously mentioned forbidden items, you should be golden.

The Air/Sand badge levels are intended to be a more introductory BB with less rigid standards compared to the Wood/Iron series. It is important to read what the BB wants and to provide evidence in a way that makes a submission straight forward for the reviewer to look at. Don't give too much and don't provide too little. And if there ever is some confusion, ask!

Anne, THANK YOU for your suggestions. It is appreciated.  Timothy: The question I have was not answered straight forward by your response:  is store packaging NOT acceptable?  I just want to be fully certain of what is expected.  Thank you in advance!!

If you submit a BB and the store packaging is plastic, it sounds like it would not pass the requirements of the BB.

That helps Timothy. Thank you. NO plastic of any kind, at any point, at all. Got it.  Thank you!

Something to think about, especially at the start.  The ability to SHOW you read and followed directions is more important than the task itself.

The wording of the bb is carefully chosen.  At the top of the skip forums, there are some links that explain better the goals and restrictions and why sometimes it doesn't seem like we gave a direct answer, when actually we did.

If memory serves the wording goes something like: Plastic, etc, cannot be in the bb submission.

I agree. Here's the link: http://stoves2.com
