Hello All!  I am looking to try the rmh project, but instead of the rmh, can I make a long-handled dustpan? Being an apartment dweller, that would seem more practical for me, it is basically the same thing.

My BIG question: if a project requires a specific item, but due to circumstances (space, financial, or necessity/practicalityor local/lease rules) can we adjust the project while still maintaining the principle/core theme of the project?  Thanks!!  --Tess

I don't mean to be a pain or pusher of boundaries, but my circumstances are VERY precarious at the moment as far as my housing is concerned. But I really think I can do this project with a highly successful product.  Thanks!

Hi Tess. I'm not that familiar with the specific requirements but usually they are not that flexible. If it says "make a spoon" the making a fork won't do Which BB were you looking at (a link always helps!) An alternative might be an oddball BB - where you make something else and get a BB credit for that. You can only get credit for a certain amount of oddballs though I think, so you need to be strategic!

For questions related to BBs, please post in this Thread.

It is a running thread for questions like this so the folks who monitor the program have an easier time.

Please also include a link to the specific badge bit you are inquiring about so they know what you are referencing.

Why not try some of the Badge Bits from the PEA: Permaculture Experience for Anywhere

Some of them were for apartment dwellers if I remember correctly:

PEP and PEA both have “Oddball” badges for when a project doesn’t fit with any of the existing BBs. You may find this category helpful. https://permies.com/wiki/148306/PEA-Badge-Oddball

I would say just do what you can/feel like and don’t worry about what you can’t right now. You don’t need to do everything in order to make a lot progress!

I also don’t see how a dustpan is the equivalent of a rocket mass heater but maybe that’s because my metalworking is limited mostly to cold working scavenged barbed wire.

So sorry, in the PEA list, it says rmh in reference to the scoop tool.  I didn't realize rmh was a heater. I learn something new every time I post! I will also go to the thread given for my questions. My thoughts are for the PEA: instead of a scoop could I make a dustpan that I can actually use, instead of a product that is just going to take up space & do nothing. Also, I don't buy soda, especially in cans. Can I use another type of metal to make the products?  I'm just trying to problem solve the materials issue, if I can still do the basic idea, I'd just use what I have on hand,  Thanks!  --Tess
