I'm concerned that the flat fabric and the lace thread are not necessarily the same material or percentage? Labels often say, "100% cotton exclusive of trim" and in this case the thread that makes up the lace could all be considered "trim". It could be 100% cotton, but unlikely. More likely to 100% artificial something.

A row of very tiny buttons might do the job though? They'd have to be very close or things would droop.
