Jay, you hit the nail on the head!

What do you think about a forum, probably best situated in the cider press, called “Venting”?

I do have deep roots on my land—I have lived here for just over 15 years.  We moved in on Thanksgiving Day, 2004.  The house was not even completely finished—still some lights to put up, a couple of switches that did not work a ceiling fan to install and no carpet on the stairs—but it made for great memories.  I put in the lawn (and sometimes I feel like I am always putting in the lawn).  I built the decks and finished the basement and all sorts of never-ending homeowner projects.

At present I have my mushroom garden beds.  I broke ground on those during my first summer.  I tried to use a spade and dig up by hand (which really means by back) and gave up and purchased a tiller, tilled up a few (3?) beds, sold the tiller, made new beds, and now I am filling them with wood chip compost.  I still have more plans.  And I have more living fence rows to trim up to reclaim part of my grassland and make more chips for more mushrooms and on and on.

Jay, thanks for being an astute observer and thanks for recognizing that I just needed a vent.

Thanks very much,

Eric

I knew school holidays had kicked in yesterday when I came home to the neighbours kids racing 2strokes up and down the road.
It's annoying but what I'm scared of is the fact they don't slow down and look both ways before leaving their gate.

I'd suggest that Darwin might just get a work-out, but the reality is that I used to tell my children, "Don't scare the cars - it's not nice". They are now grown, but just the other day someone wasn't paying attention and I automatically said, "careful, you're scaring the cars" and I got a really funny look as a result, followed by the lights going on and a guilty grin.
I'd suggest you try the line on the kids for the sake of the poor driver who could feel devastated if he was the unlucky person and unable to stop in time.

I've had a similar problem with neighbors with very loud 50cc dirt bikes. They roam through the neighborhood making all the noise they possibly can, it's almost as if they're daring us to say something.

My solution would be to come charging out of my driveway on an Indian Chief Dark Horse and run five or six Donuts around them. For some reason my wife finds that approach undiplomatic.
