We are looking for the people who have RV, 5th Wheel or Travel Trailer and an interest in
Permaculture and/or Off the Grid Living. Sorry, but due to lack of bathrooms and showers no tent trailers, truck campers, tents, yurts or sleeping in vehicles cannot be accepted. You must have a working: toilet,
shower and heat for your rig.
We have an 80 acres Ranch Laboratory we call the End of the Road Ranch near Siletz, Oregon. It is where we experiment and develop new
Permaculture and off the grid methods and products. Our Ranch is 10 miles from the Pacific Ocean in Oregon. We are 7 miles from the nearest town of Siletz with 1300 people. It has a: riverside park; bank;
gift shop,
Grange Hall, bakery; restaurant; video store; (5) churches; grocery store; library; post office; roadhouse\sport bar; fuel station and mini market.
The Ranch is surrounded by 20,000+ acres of logging
land. It is a land locked island of 80 level acres surrounded on two sides by river with wild salmon, trout, and steel-head.
There are 5 miles of logging roads and locked logging gates to get to the Ranch.
Warning: only ATT cell service available. Internet is available, but at your expense. See
http://www.hughesnet.com/ for details.
We need assistance at the Laboratory Ranch. If you have a self-contained rig we will provide full hookup with Septic,

Our First Off the Grid Products -
The TomatoBarrels
A TomatoBarrels is a portable system that takes advantage of the heat storing capacity of the water reservoir and of its portability to enable a longer growing season and minimal need for watering.
Tomato production on the Oregon Coast is hard because of the large amount of cold Oregon rain; the Coast's ground is cold until usually June or early July. With a TomatoBarrel a person can start planting as soon as you have your container barrel.
The containers are mobile and can sit anywhere -- in a community garden, on a deck, in a
yard, on a sidewalk -- they can be easily located in the sunniest area throughout the season. Because they are not in contact with the ground and there are 22 gallons of water stored in the bottom, they stay warmer. They only need to have water replenished about once a week. They have 32 gallons of Wicking Material in the top of the barrel.
Our Secret is Wicking Material! TomatoBarrel growing varies significantly from traditional in-ground growing. Unlike conventional soil where worms and other insects provide "channels" for natural aeration, the growing material in the TomatoBarrel requires a loose, porous mix to replicate the aeration process. A TomatoBarrel requires a lot of material (32 gallons).
Ollas
The Ollas is the Oldest Irrigation and most efficient system in the World. The use of Ollas is an ancient practice. The first writing about the technique dates back about 2,000 years to China. This system is used in Pakistan, India, Iran, Mexico and Brazil. Irrigation with ollas is said to be up to 10 times more efficient than conventional surface watering.
An OLLA is an unglazed clay pot fired at a low temperature. This allows the pot to remain porous. The OLLA is buried in the ground with the neck exposed and periodically filled with water. The water seeps into the soil at a rate that provides adjacent plants with a constant water source at the
roots.
Water is not normally a problem on the Oregon Coast, but rain could be lacking in the months of June, July, August and September.. By using Olla technology:
• Water usage is 50% - 70% less
• Plants aren't overwatered
• Do not have to water daily
• Weed growth is reduced
• Perfect for small or patio gardens..
• Save high water bills
• Contain no paint or glaze.
• Have no moving parts
• Can use organic liquid fertilizer
Rainwater Harvesting
Rainwater to Drink in Disaster - Rainwater is naturally distilled water and represents clean drinking water when it falls from the sky. It only becomes contaminated when it touches roofs, gutters and other surfaces. Since RainSaucers™ catches rainwater onto a food safe surface; it can easily serve as a source of drinking water with our Sawyer filter™. The lightweight, easily transported and assembled RainSaucer™ is ready to go in the event of a disaster where clean water is not available.
Rainwater for the Garden - To have a reliable source of water for your garden, rainwater harvesting is the obvious
answer. It does not always rain when your garden needs it or you want to grow your garden in a spot where there is not a convenient source of water. A RainSaucers™ system can solve that problem. A RainSaucers™ system has storage barrels and acts as an on-site catchment system. When it rains, the water is caught and stored in the barrels. If there is no rain, then the garden can simply access their stored water as needed with a RainSaucers™ system and our float valve TomatoBarrel© system.

Worm Module
Worms in soil provide abundant benefits in increasing water infiltration, soil structure, and nutrient cycling. While taken for granted over the years by many, it has been only recently that scientists, soil ecologists, horticulturists, educators, and waste managers have
led the way in expanding our understanding of these remarkable creatures.
The worm module is approximate 15 inches high and 4 inches across. It extends 3 inches above the Wicking Material in the
Garden Bed. The bottom of the module is filled with Coir (processed coconut husk) and 1/5 of lb of red wiggler worms.
Slug Zapper
The Slug Zapper uses a 9 volt battery because it provides correct amount of voltage for the slugs and the voltage cannot be not felt or hurt a person. The 9 volt battery fits into a water protection case.
It is a problem to install two wires a few inches apart. We have solved this problem with our special Slug Wire. The Slug Wire has 20 UV resistant polyethylene threads and a combination of 10 electric wires interwoven into the top and bottom of the Slug Wire.
Most slugs test the second wire a few times then turn back unharmed. A few unfortunates have been trapped between the wires and just sort of melted. Slugs quickly learn to respect a hot wire, thus casualties become a rare thing after a few nights.
