Bumping an old
thread here. Just got my sheller from Premier put together
yesterday and gave it a test. While it does not work quite as well as I hoped
for, it is *way* faster than shelling by hand! Had misgivings about the
wheel being plastic, but the all
cast iron Rite Farm (AKA DreamJoy) has some
bad reviews. Multiple reports of broken and or warped parts. Only bad review
I found on the Premier was a missing washer. These were the only two (new)
hand crank shellers I found in my price range so hope I made the right choice.
Plastic wheel looks very sturdy and
should last a long time. Still feel it
will likely be the first part to break. Turns out it is a Ritmo made by
Novital in Italy so went to their site to see if the wheel is replaceable.
No luck yet since their English pages are very hit or miss... Did notice
something odd, the current version Novital sells is now mostly plastic. Body
which is a cast metal (I think aluminum since it is obviously non-ferrous)
from Premier is now plastic. Massive steel crank with wooden handle is now a
short steel axle with the rest plastic. Anyone considering buying one might want
to hurry before the US supplier(s)
sell out and restock.
No missing parts on mine, even got an extra nut. Only assembly issue was a
bur on the crank where the wooden handle bolts on. A little work with a file
and running the bolt all the way through from the wrong side fixed this.
It also was throwing a lot of kernels on the floor. Made a crude
cardboard
shield which reduces this to an acceptable level. Plan to build a better shield
and might even take pictures if it turns out nice.
