If it was your land, what would you do with it?
I'd suggest looking at nitrogen fixing trees and bushes such as black locust, honey locust, and alder as companion neighbours to your fruit trees

Of those three , only black locust (Robinia spp.) and alders fix nitrogen. Honey locusts (Gleditsia triacanthos) don't.
