Finding someone to talk to as a newbie

Hello,

I am a campground caretaker about 12 yrs in....I have seen land subjected to corporate ideals, and adjusted to limit liability. Every year I have become more and more of an opposite thinker, non-conformist. I just recently found permaculture, and it is a breath of fresh air, to hear people understand, and care.

I am wondering how to actually meet with someone, and have a conversation, ask questions? I am a little out of bounds being in the east coast region, I am sure there are fewer here than out west. But is there anyone around from western PA that would be willing to " fill me in" on some of the details, put up with some questions and maybe even mentor me?

I have had thoughts of starting my own camp with the purpose of bringing the youth back to the land, and have gotten so exited after finding this methodology and the amount of wholistic application in life and actions.

It is great to hear that you recently found out about permaculture and are really excited about it! While you are waiting to find someone that you can meet-up with in person, I recommend checking out the Guide to Getting Help on Projetcs thread which has a list of free online resources to help with self-education.

I will surely be asking questions! I guess I feel like I have more ignorance and questions than a forum can support!!! I really need a place to get the methodology and basics of permaculture, I have seen some great videos of lectures with some basics. Zones and thought process and the like. I watched about four hours of lectures last night and just want as much as I can find!!!

Is there a website with these types of teaching materials? I might just be not looking in the right areas.....

Chadwick Holmes : The Geoff Lawton series are great, While not a step by step guide they WILL Excite You ! and you will pick up a lots of tips !

Two further suggestions for where to L@@K to find locals with some permaculture experience Would be

1) Through the " Intentional Communities Directory"which lists by group , state , or search your general area through a interactive Map !


2) Through a ''Meetup" Group meetup.com, There are meet up groups for everything as pits burg is a major population hub for Your area

After working on large properties for 12 yrs (100-300 acres) I am finding that I am already doing a lot of this but on a scale that was very very cautious, I don't know how many of you got the ah ha moment when you discovered this but I am so there!!!

Howdy Chad, welcome to permies. Be sure to ask any questions you may have, as you can see there are a lot of great, helpful folks here.

The apples are something that the staff here at permies can give to anyone who posts a really great post. Pictures of projects, helpful answers, etc. The number is how many apples that person has accumulated. So stick around and keep posting, maybe someday you too will have some apples!

Scott Mann, who does the Permaculture Podcast, is in PA, but further east.

He always closes his show with an appeal for folks to contact him if there is anything they think he might help with...
I bet he knows of at least someone in your area. He also seems very big on education, projects with kids, etc.

So, I have been doing these lectures available at the open school, that were in the link " help with projects" these are great!

So, it killed the cat, and it has gotten me, I see lots of design cert schools...who certifies to teach? I can't find a permaculture council site or anything......but I assume there is one because all the people teaching that I have seen seem to know their stuff!
