We are a young couple with passion in our hearts and
energy in our bodies looking for work that matters. The ideal situation for us would be working on or creating/running a small
permaculture or organic farm (preferably vegetables/fruits and eggs with some specialty crops like
mushrooms, spirulina, garlic, micro livestock, etc.) in exchange for housing, resources and/or a salary. Between us is over a decade of
gardening experience. We are looking to help someone achieve their vision of a
sustainable agro-ecosystem. CURRENTLY LOCATED IN NYC, so preference to Hudson Valley Locations but WE ARE WILLING TO RELOCATE as long as there is a town a drive away. We are looking to make arrangements by Spring 2016.
About us...
My name is Andrew, I am a Liberal Arts Major at BMCC, an avid urban farmer and a digital artist. I have previously developed succesful urban farms to bring the
local food production movement to my community. I have worked on conventional homesteads as well, where my main focus was maintaining a wide variety of crops and teaching children about the native flora and fauna, the seasonal and reproductive cycle of plants and insects, pest identification, livestock care and the connectivity of species in nature. I am a fastidious researcher and planner and enjoy creating financial plans, thinking of whole systems integration and creating "dream farms" where no waste is created and production components complement each other. I have also had less horticulturally oriented jobs such as babysitting, illustration, bartending and cash handling; jobs that requiring tactful interaction, organization, creativity and focus.
Her name is Sarah, She is a music teacher, seamstress, gardener and all around sweetheart who will either work on the farm or get a job in town.

QUALIFICATIONS

-Five years of organic farming experience: successfully raised from seed/cutting heirloom vegetable annuals, tropical fruit
trees and plants, mold, moss, log-grown shiitake mushrooms,
perennial berries, herbs and more.
-Sustainable farming experience under the direction of Raasa Leela Montebello, a certified
permaculture instructor taught by
Ben Falk, Andrew Faust and Steve Brill.
-Urban farming experience, grew tomatoes, squash, kale, carrots, beets, radishes, sunflowers, peppers, rhubarb, cantaloupe, broccoli, wheatgrass and herbs on a 15x25 plot in Queens, NY in 2015. In this project I used forest soil and humus from upstate New York and cultivated indigenous micro organisms and mycelia growth to improve soil fertility.
-Experienced in care of
chickens, ducks, tropical fish, carp, nematodes and microorganisms, pythons, small reptiles, amphibians, cats, dogs and goats
-Experienced in the care of beneficial garden insects such as crickets, grasshoppers, beetles, butterflies, katydids,
ants,
bees, bush crickets and praying mantis.
- Passion and respect for the earth. It is my belief that our relationship to our habitat, environment and world is the most significant aspect of life and can help cultivating flourishing community.
- Experience using some power tools, lifting over 50 lbs and working in the summer heat.
- Experience with keeping records and almanacs through journals, info sheets and blogging.
-Knowledge of Microsoft Suite, Mac and PC OS and web design.

Activities and Maintenance Director
Tenderfoot Farms, Ashland, Virginia
- In charge of the care and health of
chickens, ducks and
bees as well as the vegetable garden and peach orchards.
- Animal husbandry, organic pest control, soil fertility knowlege and willingness to live without modern conveniences such as air conditioning and plumbing.
- Educated visitors and their children on the farm activities and the native life of the property.
- Ran a nature camp, taking children out to the field so they could take part in harvesting, bug catching and plant identification.
- Housekeeping, childcare and cooking duties for the homestead.
- In charge of identifying and removing problem pests such as tomato hornworm, harlequin beetle, cucumber beetle, green stink bug, cabbage worm, squashbug and Japanese beetle. Also responsible for coming up with organic or biological solutions and/or prevention techniques for various pests.
- Identified and recorded native species of plants, animals, trees and insects out in the field for biodiversity reports.

Garden Manager

- Converted an empty, trash filled lot into a highly productive agri-ecosystem.

water recycling, companion planting, cover crops and introduction/attraction of pollinating insects.
- Seed saving of heirloom varieties.
