Venting Requirements?

My question is:  Per building code, what are the venting requirement, to the outside, for a rocket mass heater?  Does it need a flue or pipe to extend above the roof line, or can it just be stubbed out the side of the house?

Thanks

Stubbed outside of the house doesn't work. Except in a verry few, and rare cases.

And the law, i think, calls for a proper insulated chimney, raising above the roofline.
