Is there a way to add something to the forums that allows me to tell who gave me an apple?

Well we could, but that would ruin the fun.  And the mystery...

Plus it would re-open old problems like members sending apple-begging PMs to other members, and, believe it or not, illegal apple trading between members who believed that getting enough apples would mean they could take over the board.  It doesn't quite work like that though...

Pie is different.  Unless the pie-giver opts to send anonymously, you should get a notification of who sent it. Possibly with a note.

Is there a problem with your apples Todd?
As each giver of apples acts in a different way it's difficult at times to predict when and where they are given

I believe I have given you an apple Todd, but am not sure the it was recently. (Recently defined as within the last week) My problem is that I forget I can give them away, though plenty of posts qualify for sure.

No problem with mine at all.  I just thought it would be nice to know who gave them to you so you could thank people.  I never thought about the possibility of people apple-begging (I guess that's a thing).

The same thing happens to me Travis.  I like giving out apples, but I sometimes forget about them, especially if I am really busy and just doing a "drive-by" on the forum that day.

I have before gone back to a post of mine that received an apple, hit EDIT and said thank you to 'whoever' there at the bottom of the post.

As for:

members who believed that getting enough apples would mean they could take over the board

I don't recollect having any apple rustlers 'round these parts for a spell, pardner. Reckon they was thinking "board domination today; tomorrow, the world".

I would not have thought about apple begging or apple trading either. Sometimes the greediness of people amazes me. It also amazes me what Paul Wheaton, Burra and Jocelyn have to deal with sometimes.

illegal apple trading between members who believed that getting enough apples would mean they could take over the board.

haha...I remember that one......

Todd...sometimes apples come indirectly also, where a member 'reports' a post that they think should have an apple, so the actual 'giver' might not be the same as the one who suggests.

I owed Karen an apple for spam that she reported. I don't know how to give an apple if there is no post, so I put it above.

We had a pair who will be nameless, that traded Apple favors back and forth as they secretly agreed with one another on many things. I think the thumbs-up thing was abused as well.

I would like to make it known that I will shamelessly — shamelessly — give an apple to any post that tickles my fancy as having contributed to the awesome discussion here at Permies.
